The Confusion over 1099 Independent Contractors Continues

Thanks to for keeping the business world updated on employment issues that could easily get lost in the world news of the week. They recently reported on the landmark decision of Dynamex Operations West, Inc v. Superior Court of Los Angeles, No. S222732, where the California Supreme Court announced new testing criteria for determining if an individual qualifies as an employee or can be classified as an independent contractor.

This is not likely to be the end in this battle. As the “Gig Economy” grows, there will be continued debate over who is protected under employment policies and benefits.
